Hey everyone,
So this week has been another slow week. We did pretty close to 20 hours of finding this week, and I must say that when it comes to the major differences between California and Utah, there is no bigger difference then the fact that Californians don't talk to each other at all. While Utah people seem to be more open and tend to communicate with each other more.
We asked a lot of people this week if we could help them and do any kind of service for them, and they all seemed shocked to hear someone offer such a thing. They all told us they were good, and we ended up with pretty much no discussions this week and no service. I was feeling pretty down on myself. Then I remembered something that my dad and I had gone through before my mission. We were in Salt Lake and we were driving down a road and I was pretty much passed out in the passenger seat. All of sudden my dad pulled over and got out of the car. I was not sure what was going on, but I got out to and went and asked my dad "What are we doing?" He told me that he saw an elderly fellow walking up the street and he seemed to be struggling to carry some heavy grocery bags. We caught up to him at a stop sign where he had put the bags down and was now bending over to catch his breath. We asked if we could help but he did not respond. My dad leaned in and asked again and the man pointed to his ear, which meant that he could not hear, so my dad gestured toward the bags and the man kind of swatted at my dad's hands and proceeded to pick up the bags and hurry across the street. We did not pursue since it was obvious that he did not want us to help. We got back in the car, and in truth I did not see the point of trying to help that man and I felt discouraged a little bit. My dad then told me that he did not know why he felt like he needed to stop and all he knew was that he had a prompting to try and help that man. I look back at that and I realize that God will prompt us to do a lot of great and marvelous things, but they will not always turn out good. But perhaps that is just God making sure we are still willing to do something with the promptings we get. Thank you dad! Also, HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAD!! Since I won't be able to tell you tomorrow.
I thank you all for your great examples and I wish the best upon all of you.
Love,
